Salt Spring Island’s Saturday Market is one of Canada’s best and is dedicated to high quality goods and local authenticity. The outdoor market features more than 140 artisans and food producers who contribute to the island’s international reputation as a hotbed of world-class artisans and organic farmers. The market offers a “homespun guarantee” as island vendors must “make it, bake it, or grow it” themselves. There is an impressive array of handpicked produce from local fields and gardens, farmstead cheeses and organic foods. Artisans include potters, jewellers, fibre artists, woodworkers, and fine decorative artists. Come and enjoy live music and free festive fun.
Late spring is prime for asparagus, radishes and peas. As summer turns to autumn, corn, kale, root vegetables and organic apples appear. Food always available includes garlic, eggs, flowers, jams and preserves, wild smoked salmon and tuna, baked goods, island-made hot mustard, organic cereal and cheeses. Some other unique products available include aromatic handmade soap; herbal teas and skincare products; gourmet pet treats; stained glass lamps; paintings and art photography; handwoven silk scarves; hemp and tie-dyed clothing; birdhouses and more!
