Piers Island Library

The Piers Island library is located at the Fire Hall. Current fiction is the largest section but there is also a small kids section as well as some non-fiction and reference. There is a small collection of Canadian Film on DVD and VHS as well as a computer with internet access. Books are signed out by the honour system.  Entrance to the library is arranged by calling one of the contact people to borrow a key. 

Mayne Island Reading Centre

The Mayne Reading Centre Society's mission is to enrich lives by providing a circulating collection of materials of interest and entertainment in a welcoming environment for all. Their vision is to be the hub of the Mayne Island Community by providing a welcoming space for islanders and visitors of all ages. Through the collections and access to information, the Library hopes to inspire, enrich and celebrate the unique community. The library is run entirely by volunteers.

Pender Island Public Library

Pender Island's Public Library is located on North Pender Island, near the Community Hall and the United Church. It started in 1973 in the back of a community church and its mandate is to provide library services that meet the needs and desires of the people of the Pender Islands. The library is run by volunteers. Any Pender Island resident or property owner may apply for a library card at no charge and non-residents may purchase temporary membership for $50, refundable upon return of the Library card. There is parking is available.

Galiano Island Community Library

Membership to Galiano Island Community Library is free to all residents of the Island. Non-residents may purchase a temporary card, valid for three months. It gives full borrowing privileges, costs $5. To join, you must register in person at the Library. The Library also has a number of computer stations available for patron use, all connected to the Internet.

Pender Island Farmer’s Market

Sponsored by the Pender Island Farmers' Institute, the Pender Island Farmers' Market sees local farmers, craftspeople and other vendors display Pender Island's best farm-fresh produce: vegetables, fruits, flowers, goat cheese, eggs, baked goods, jams and jellies, sushi, plants, art, crafts, jewellery, music and snacks!

Open Saturdays, 9:30am to 1:00pm, Easter through Thanksgiving.

Mayne Island Farmers Market

The Mayne Island community hosts a Farmer's Market in the Agricultural Hall Grounds in Miners Bay on Saturdays throughout the summer and early fall featuring home-made and home-grown products. At the market you can find locally produced vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, fresh flowers, jams, plants, lamb's wool, goat's milk and cheese. Products available change with the seasons. You can also enjoy a tasty lunch at the market; Deacon Vale Farm offers home-made sausages, hot beef sandwiches, salmon burgers etc.

Open Saturdays, 10:00am to 1:00pm, July through October.

Cannon Crescent Wastwater Treatment Plant

Located on Pender Island, the Cannon Crescent Wastewater Treatment Plant discharges secondary treated wastewater into Swanson Channel through a 204-metre outfall at a depth of 29 metres below sea level. Treated wastewater is monitored monthly for flow, total suspended solids, biochemical oxygen demand, fecal coliform bacteria and nutrients. The quality of the biosolids produced at this treatment plant is also monitored regularly.

Schooner Way Wastewater Treatment Plant

Located on Pender Island, the Schooner Way Wastewater Treatment Plant discharges secondary treated wastewater into Swanson Channel through a 198-metre outfall at a depth of 8 metres below sea level. Treated wastewater is monitored monthly for flow, total suspended solids, biochemical oxygen demand, fecal coliform bacteria and nutrients. The quality of the biosolids produced at this treatment plant is also monitored regularly.
